The clients came to us as empty nesters with one quiet ambition: a house their children would want to come home to, with their own children in tow.

El Chamizal sits five minutes from an elite golf course, with the fairway visible from the office windows. But the golf course isn't the design. The design is what happens when the grandchildren arrive.

The plan opens to a great room flooded with light from a clerestory that runs the length of the gathering wall — a room sized for a long table at Thanksgiving and a coffee in two cupped hands on a Tuesday morning. The kitchen sits behind it, a working kitchen with a hidden pantry leading to a second, secret room for the things the kids should not find before dinner. At the top of the stairs: an arcade game.

The master suite is the counterweight. A bathroom built for shared mornings, a soaking tub angled toward the live oaks, tile walls in warm wood tone. The kind of room you walk into at the end of a long day and feel your shoulders drop two inches.

Outside, the pool meets a putting green that wraps the rear yard. The empty nesters got their golf. The grandchildren — when they arrive — will get the rest.

Twenty-three years in the Hill Country.
A practice built one house at a time.

The Practice

KM Designs is the work of Kimberly Mockert, a Certified Professional Building Designer with twenty-three years of practice in the Texas Hill Country.

We work directly with the people who will live in the house. Not their broker, not a project manager. The client sits at the table, looks at the plans, walks the framing, and tells us what's working. We've done it that way for twenty-three years because it produces homes the family stays in. Spring Branch, Boerne, Bulverde, Comfort, San Antonio. Custom, transitional, farmhouse, modern. Whatever the family asks for, drawn carefully and built well.
